carpe carmina celebrates III (featuring artists GRIM & The Knievel Dead)

Let the celebration continue! For those of you just joining today, here's what carpe carmina celebrates is all about: on the occasion of its 2nd anniversary carpe carmina decided to throw a rousing music party. And what's a party without its illustrous guests?! ... Exactly, that's why some of the finest musicians, thus far featured on carpe carmina, have been invited to contribute to this joyful event by performing a song in honor of two years of musical musings. The outcome, eventually, is none to be missed!

Derry man and creative composer GRIM has highlighted The Knievel Dead's moody, dimly hypnotic and vivacious song 'The Devil Walks In Me' with shady, perkily beat-driven tonal distortion, with bluesy, hauntingly howling vocals - and that sure makes for a grand audible adventure

Where has GRIM been when carpe carmina came into being?

Laurence McDaid, better known among electronic-blues music enthusiasts as GRIM, has been been sharing deep thoughts,  momentous, sharp lyrics and witty quotes as per se in june 2013. The sarcastic and smart, daring musician had in mind to give people an insight into the very same for them to learn what his ambition and mission as an artist is - a wise step, considering his debut EP 'Digital Throw-Up' was on the last lap. What he's currently been up to? Who knows?! - this man is a mystery, just as fickle and exciting as his music itself, while his social media showings give away that he enjoys to be critical, thought-provoking as well as supportive of good compositions and decent writing. Having a guess here, he's probably composing new songs present-day, on his laptop Nigel. At least carpe carmina hopes for new blues-infused and suspensefully dynamic music in 2015. It would be a grim year without!

What does GRIM have to say about carpe carmina and this milestone?

'Carpe Carmina runs the risk of exhausting adjectives in two languages while trying to describe the music she is passionate about, and I don't think I could endorse it more than that.' [lovely as ever, isn't he? ;)]

It is Odel's first official solo approach to music-making after the sad parting of The Knievel Dead as a quartet in March 2014; and his acoustic cover of GRIM's composition 'In His Own Image' proves he can enthrall an audience with darkly sonorous and haunting vocal gravity, with atmopsheric and brisk guitar play solely (and as solo artist) too.

Where has The Knievel Dead been when carpe carmina came into being?

Comparing the 2013 version of The Knievel Dead to the one at the present time, there is one monumental difference: the line-up changed drastically, from being a fierce four-piece, it's now only lead singer Odel, who carries on the legacy of The Knievel Dead.

In june two years back, however, the full alt-rock outfit was preparing to leave for Toronto's NXNE festival in order to win canadian fans over with their dizzy, tense and melodiously swirling sound; and little did they know by then about their future collaboration with carpe carmina, one that led up to a small still sublime gig in camden, which would have not been possible without the great help from and involvement of Odel.  Hence whatever muscial path he's gonna strike, carpe carmina is ready to be outspoken about it. What's left for you to do, is to decide whether you want to purchase The Knievel Dead's last record released as a band or not. Since it's a thrilling, feisty and absorbingly tenebrous one, you shouldn't be all too hesitant

What does Odel have to say about carpe carmina and this milestone?

"It's rare that you chance upon such a project in the early stages that you're certain is destined for greatness, and Carpe Carmina is certainly on its way.  The brainchild of this, Nessi, writes precise and rigorous reviews and works tirelessly to promote unsigned bands from all over, to which we are all eternally grateful. The blog has achieved so much and we look forward to what the future brings. I just hope she remembers us all when she's up there at the top! Endless thank-yous."
