carpe carmina celebrates VII (feat. James Holt)

Never change a winning team and the cooperation of carpe carmina and manchester-based musician James Holt proved to be fruitful indeed last year, so it's an honor to have him here today to celebrate the blog's 4th anniversary with us ...

Back when carpe carmina turned 3 years old ...

... a collaboration between the charming young man, who is well-known for his eclectic musical style and charismatically captivating voice among his fans, and carpe carmina did happen, as german language skills were needed for the b-side of James Holt's charity single release (you can find both here). Officially out mid july, the blissfully wistful and poetic song was purchased by many and the great amount of nearly £1100 was raised for Royal Manchester Children's Hospital Charity. But 'Butterfly' wasn't James' only contribution to a good cause in 2016, the macunian musician got involved in charity to support the welcoming of asylum seekers (Manchester City of Sanctuary), the welfare of those without a home (Musicians Against Homelessness) and the work of his hometown community (Forever Manchester), played a plethora of gigs in and around Manchester, performed at a good couple of festivals (Salford Music Festival, Sonder Festival, Bfestival [charity event]) as well.

Early this year, the songsmith started a new project on his youtube channel: as a lover of musical classics, he filmed videos of his take on Beatles and Bowie songs, to name a few and that with great resonance. Now carpe carmina was obviously excited to find whether he chose a cover or an original song as musical gift for its birthday [since it's been recently re-recorded and lyrically hints at the Beatles, chances were quite high it would be one of our all-time-favourites of his, 'Whatever Happened To John?'. Second guess was its delightfully vibrant and masterfully guitar-sportive b-side 'Magic Disaster' (both out on July 7)] ... and is delighted still to disclose that it's neither but a beautifully blue rendition of 'Alone Again & Always'. And what a wonderful, melodiously magical version it is!

Music well worth listening to ...

... for it perfectly showcases the diversity and depth of James Holt's music; 'Alone Again & Always' cleverly connects delicate, sparkling vocal flair and darling, smooth melodies to a point where the listener can't help but be in awe of it completely.

Let's hear it from James Holt ...

'Happy 4th birthday carpe carmina!! Thanks so much for your love and support of indie music and sharing your passion with the world – here's to many more birthdays!'
